When it comes to energy, California is playing a different game and it shows. From 2006 to 2008, California attracted $3 of every $5 invested in U.S. clean tech — five times as much as the No. 2 state. California has been preparing for its clean-energy future for a long time. California is encouraging utilities to help their customers use less power. It also began enacting groundbreaking efficiency standards for buildings, appliances, pool heaters and almost anything else that needs juice. It just proposed the first standards for flat-screen TVs.
It's also leading the way toward electric cars, zero-emission homes, advanced biofuels and a smarter grid. It's even launched a belated battle against car-dependent sprawl, with unprecedented rules forcing communities to consider carbon emissions in their land-use plans. Solar is no longer an eco-fantasy in California where rooftop installations have doubled for two years in a row, to 50,000, heading to the state goal of 1 million by 2017. Just recently, California created the nation's first energy-efficiency standard for television sets, again setting the trend for other states to follow like they have in the past as part of California's campaign to reduce energy waste and cut emissions from power plants.
This public-sector foresight creates alluring opportunities for the private sector entrepreneur. Getting in touch with the right people and being creative can help lead you to many opportunities in clean energy. For financing, venture capitalists are a traditional source of fund but there are other opportunities for financing that can get your ideas and company moving forward.
Join us for a panel to hear about a range of creative financing avenues including utilities, government granting agencies, angels and VCs who have opportunities for you to fund your company.
Join us on January 9th, 2010, when our program will focus on the business and financing opportunities in the clean technology sector and will also highlight ways you can sell your alternative energy to customers such as utility companies.
In an effort to get everyone the opportunity to pose their questions to the panelist during the Forum’s Q&A session, you can also put in your questions here and the panelists will choose some questions to answer during the forum: http://www.cleangreenguy.com/thought-leadership/events-forums-and-mixers/caltechmit-enterprise-forum-event-cleantech-and-money-en
Note: We will be speaking about Entrepreneurial opportunities within GreenTech in May 2010
